                                           TOWN OF DUBLIN, NH

                                                    CEMETERY

                                       GENERAL INFORMATION

The municipal town cemetery in Dublin, NH was established in 1751 and is the only
public cemetery available for town residents.  The cemetery is
governed by a board of three elected trustees.

Dublin Cemetery is located on the shore of Dublin Lake on the northerly side of
Route 101 and abuts Old Common Road to the north and south.  The site of Dublin’s
first Meetinghouse and original Town Pound are located on cemetery grounds.  It
contains the graves of most, if not all, of those citizens who played an important role
in Dublin’s development as well as veterans of all of this nation’s wars, including the
American Revolution.

On October 18, 2010, a dedication was held at the cemetery for a Liberty Elm Tree which was received under a grant from the Elm Research Institute. This tree, with an accompanying bronze plaque, was planted adjacent to the Town's original Meeting House site and recognized the importance of the "Liberty Elm" to the efforts made towards the struggle for independence leading to the American Revolution. Various Town officials, members of the 5th grade class from Dublin Consolidated School, and the public attended the dedication.

The cemetery is closed for interments or disinterments from December 1st to May 1st
of each year due to winter conditions.  Each of the above dates may be modified by
the Cemetery Trustees if weather conditions in any year warrant such change.

All interments shall take place between sunrise and sunset, unless otherwise directed
by the Board of Health.  Notice of any interment shall be given to the Superintendent
at least 12 working hours in advance.  No interment of any body or the cremated
remains of any body, other than a human being, shall be permitted in the cemetery.

Dogs are allowed in the cemetery provided they are on a leash, quiet and the owner
picks up after them.

No signs or notices are allowed in the cemetery unless placed by the Cemetery Trustees.

Maps showing the locations of all roadways and burial places in the town cemetery are
on file with the superintendent and may be seen on request at the town archives center..

The objective of the town is to maintain the cemetery in a manner in which its historical
heritage, simplicity, and dignity are maintained.  Consequently, restrictions are in place
which do not allow certain types of memorial stones, benches, ornamentation, etc. which
may be perceived as appropriate by individuals but which may not be in keeping with the
overall objective and/or whose inclusion could impact the symmetry and beauty of the
final resting place of our citizens.  Memorial stones with strong religious or artistic themes, unusual proportions, size and/or color will generally not be permitted.  Final
design acceptance rests with the Cemetery Trustees.

CEMETERY RULES AND REGULATIONS (General summary)

The Town of Dublin has adopted rules and regulations pertaining to the cemetery.  State
law empowers the Cemetery Trustees with the responsibility to adapt and/or modify these
regulations.  Cemetery rules are for the protection of all plot owners, and a safeguard from
both misdirected sentiment or artistic expression of those who might erect inappropriate
memorials and otherwise impair the dignity, beauty, and visual symmetry of the cemetery.

The Cemetery Superintendent has the responsibility to enforce these regulations, and bring
any matters requiring an exception to these regulations to the Trustees.

All owners and visitors within the cemetery and all lots sold shall be subject to said Rules
and Regulations, and subject further, to such Rules and Regulations amendments or alter-
ations as shall be adopted from time to time by the Cemetery Trustees.

All grading, landscaping and improvements of any kind (including the planting, trimming, cutting or removal) of trees and shrubs, all care on plots and all openings and closings of
plots shall be done by the town.  Any improvements or alterations on individual property
must be approved by the Superintendent.

Only one tub or urn of flowers shall be permitted on a plot.  No artificial flowers are
permitted.  The town shall have the authority to remove all flowers, trees, shrubs, plants
or herbage of any kind, as soon as in the judgment of the Superintendent they become
unsightly, dangerous, detrimental or diseased.

The term “Perpetual Care” shall include the cutting of grass upon the lot at reasonable
intervals, the raking and cleaning of the lot, but shall not include the maintenance or repair
of any monuments or wall, nor plantings or care of flowers or shrubs.

All markers and monuments shall be approved by the Superintendent before any work is
done on a monument.  There shall be only one central or family monument on a lot.  The
completed work is subject to the approval of the Superintendent. Above ground monuments
are only permitted on double full burial lots and family cremation lots. Flush, in ground monuments are permitted on all lots and are normally utilized for individual interments.

No coping, curbing, fences, walkways, hedges, grave mounts, borders or enclosures of any kind shallbe allowed around any lot.

The above is a brief synopsis of the rules and regulations for the Dublin Cemetery.  The
complete set of rules is available at the Town Clerk’s office or the Town Archives.
