LIbrary Trustee Minutes June 10, 2009
Dublin Public Library

Trustee’s Meeting 7:00PM  10 June 09

Attending: B. Goodwin (Chair), H. James, M. Smith, B. Sovik, A. Knight, F. Leventhal, B. Walker, J. Holmes, E. McIntyre (Director).  Absent: No one.

13 May 09 Minutes: B. Sovik moved to accept.  H. James seconded.  So moved.

Gifts: 1 magazine, 4 paperbacks, 42 hardcover books, 24 trade paperbacks, 2 hardcover children’s books, 15 VHS, 1 DVD, a cap for the railing, and a thank you note from the NH Archives Group for the use of the multi-purpose room.  J. Holmes moved to accept.  H. James seconded.  So moved.

Correspondence & Announcements:

A reminder that there will be no meetings in July & August unless necessary.

     B. Goodwin will e-mail a new trustees directory.

The Area Trustees will meet on Friday, 19 June 09, at noon at the Brookline Public Library.  A. Knight will e-mail directions.

The DPL Annual Report was completed and mailed to residents.

The Friends of the DPL program with Rebecca Rule has been rescheduled for 29 July 09.

     B. Rohde has submitted his resignation.  His presence on the board was valued and it was with regret that his resignation was accepted.

Director’s Report:

The Dublin Community Preschool held their annual art show at the library and the Dublin School History Department had several students present their reports.  Both of these events were well-attended and open to the public.

Gail Bartlett will be coming up with a design for the lower level entrance beautification project.  B. Goodwin knows of some stones that may be available and suitable for use.  Any thoughts, pro or con, are invited.

     M. Howe is back for the summer.  She graduated from college with honors and will be moving in September, but while she is here she will be busy bar-coding along with M. Whitney and V. Elder.  The process of reading the shelves with the shelf list card has been started by M. Merrell.  This is a time-consuming project that will clean out the card catalog and basically make books easier to find as some have migrated to other sections in the library and some have been discarded.  M. Price & M. Edick are ready for the summer craft sessions.  R. Patton has been busy sprucing up outside the library.

Toadstool gift certificates will be given out again this year to summer program participants.

Financial Report:

Quarterly reports for investments are in, but not yet posted.  The interest rate had increased slightly for the CD that recently matured.  B. Sovik reported that she shopped around and got the best rate available with the option to bump it up two times if the rate increases during its term.  Revenue and expenses seem to be right where they should be for this time of year.

Other Reports:

     A. Knight reported that the main topic of last month’s Area Trustee meeting was how to enhance libraries presence in the community.  One of the thoughts was to have a library column featured in the paper with area libraries each taking a turn tackling different topics.  Dublin is lucky to have the Advocate, but it would also be nice to be featured in a bigger paper.

Old Business:

     M. Smith will do one more check on projectors before submitting the final choice to the Friends.

     J. Holmes handed out and explained the director’s annual review form.  Each trustee is to complete and return to the library by 17 June 09.  There was some discussion about making it a pdf file in the future.

     B. Raymond has been approached regarding the proposed library website.  He responded that he would be happy to help out.  It was decided that it needs to be updated frequently and pleasing to the eye so that people will visit often and then come to the library.

There was some discussion regarding the lights going off.  Each of the lights has a thermostat on them and are supposed to kick off when they get too hot, but it seems to be random - one here, one there, in winter or summer.  E. McIntyre will keep a log.

New Business:

     B. Goodwin has amended the Building & Grounds project list for the summer.  Trustees can sign up for what they can do.

Having no further business, J. Holmes moved to adjourn at 8:10 pm.  A. Knight seconded.  So moved.

Next meeting is 9 Sept 09 at 7:00 pm.

Respectfully submitted:

B. Walker
