Cemetery Trustees Meeting

Meeting date:

TOWN OF DUBLIN

CEMETERY TRUSTEES

Meeting Minutes

May 3, 2021

In attendance were Loring Catlin, Brian Barden, Hank Campbell and Kiki Sangermano.

We were joined by Ann Clarkeson, Sturdy Thomas, Tim Suokko and Peter Kenyon. Ann is an abutting land owner. Sturdy and Peter are a members of the Beech Hill-Dublin Lake Watershed Association. Tim Suokko is our police chief and Peter Kenyon is on the Board of the Monadnock Conservancy.

The topic of discussion was the so-called “Beech Hill South Outlook-Cemetery Trail”. The trail originally ran from Spur Drive to the South Outlook of Beech Hill running over Mrs. Clarkeson’s land and Imhoff’s land. For many years a few locals knew and used the trail. The use of the trail has increased greatly in the last few years. There has been significant vandalism to the Clarkeson’s property. In recent years use has spread to the cemetery.  The trustees agree that the cemetery is not equipped to become a trail head or handle significant parking, garbage and liability.

The trail is found on Google and Google Earth. None of the people attending the meeting had any idea how the trail got named (using cemetery designation) or how it got posted to the internet.

After much discussion, it was agreed the trail should be closed.  Students from Dublin School have already “brushed” the trail.  A “closed” sign will be posted on the trail by Sturdy noting that access to trails should made from Beech Hill Road.

Sturdy will update the selectmen.  Peter will update the Monadnock Conservancy.  Sturdy and Peter  will talk to the Beech Hill-Dublin Lake Watershed Association to see if they would be amenable to providing a game camera on the trail to be watched by the Dublin Police to identify and discourage would-be hikers or vandals.

Kiki will make attempts to remove any internet listing or to note that the trail is closed.

Altogether, it was a very helpful meeting.

Regarding mapping invasive plants in the cemetery, Hank and Kiki will work on that.

Respectfully submitted

Kiki Sangermano, Chair
